Title: Bombykal transduction in the hawkmoth Manduca sexta
Abstract:
Insect pheromone transduction is still under debate. Insect olfactory receptor molecules (ORs) insert inversely in the membranes with the known G-protein binding site on the extracellular site. In
addition, they express a conserved coreceptor ORCO which is assumed to associate with ligand-gated ORs to form an odor-gated ion channel. However, next to the assumption that insect odor transduction
only relies on an ionotropic transduction cascade there is accumulating evidence for metabotropic transduction in different insect species. I will present our work on the pheromone transduction cascades in
the hawkmoth Manduca sexta and will suggest a new hypothesis for the function of ORCO in bombykal-transduction.
